Design challenge, day 26, I know it’s too early…

They were putting up snowflake lights on the streets where I work today.

Hey there! I'm Mandy Bee, a knitwear designer on a mission to inspire knitters to embrace their geekiness and be completely themselves! You can find my knitting patterns on Ravelry.

Crit Knits (available for purchase/download on Ravelry) is a collection of 8 knitwear designs by Christy Furlan and Mandy Bee. Each of the 8 designs is inspired by a member of the Mighty Nein from Critical Role, Campaign 2 and uses stunning yarn from Critical Sheep, to layer on even more D&D fun.

Just a little watercolor. :) I find that I get inspiration in bursts. Lots of cute animals and little nature drawings were happening, then I couldn’t think of anything in particular to paint, so I just started laying down colors. Been slowly working away on my Chosen of Uk'otoas (designed by @yarningforwhimsy, inspired by Fjord from #criticalrole for our #critknits project)! They're fun and I'm getting to work on my duplicate stitch technique... which is going so-so. :D Maybe by the end of the first sock, I'll feel better about it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

With our Critter powers combined, @yarningforwhims

With our Critter powers combined, @yarningforwhimsy and I were able to donate $600 to OutRight Action International! (Plus, her employer matches her donations!) I'm excited to be able to create patterns that not only give joy to other knitters and Critters, but also that allow us to give a little hope and help to the LGBTQ+ community by giving to an organization with a large reach. I'm hopeful for a future where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender expression, will have the same rights and privileges as everyone else. <3 Thank you to everyone who purchased one of our #critknits patterns or the full ebook during the month of June, you're the ones that made this happen!

I'm so proud of the work @yarningforwhimsy and I did to create this collection of knitted accessory patterns inspired by Critical Role's Mighty Nein characters. Critical Role is a live Dungeons and Dragons game played by a group of voice actors. It's a great show full of laughs and emotion, and a fun way to introduce yourself to the world of Dungeons and Dragons if you're curious but have never been able to play.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

For our Crit Knits ebook, we've designed three shawls, a cool hood, socks, a hat, fingerless gloves, and a tea cosy! The design samples were knit up using @criticalsheep yarns, which all have fun D&D inspiration as well!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Happy little trees <3 Here's something that I drew recently. I've been meaning to put it up on RedBubble to see how it looks on products. Or maybe Spoonflower? I think it turned out pretty cute!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I've been working through blocks I have towards actually accomplishing things I've wanted to do for a long time, like creating repeating patterns to use on products and fabric (aka surface pattern design). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I watched @bonniechristine on Skillshare for the first time a year ago and thought, "Man, surface pattern design seems like something that would be so awesome to do!" So I thought about doing it... and thought about it some more. I collected inspiration for months and months. And I watched every Skillshare class that was offered. It took months before I even attempted to design a pattern using drawings/motifs I'd created for other purposes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One thing Bonnie suggests in her course is to do one thing every day to move yourself forward in your goal, even tiny things. Fighting fatigue from my autoimmune condition and doubt from depression has made even "tiny things" pretty hard some days and I'm not as far into this journey as I hoped I would be... but here I am, still sharing something I've finished, so I must not be doing that poorly. ;) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This is my reminder to you to make sure you give yourself credit for the things you HAVE done, rather than ruminating on what you haven't. What's something you've accomplished recently that you're proud of?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
